Five discussion groups are meeting, each once a month to discuss what really matters: No Agenda Clubs in Turku (since 2003), Helsinki (since 2010) and Jyväskylä (since 2010), Leadership&ICT Forum in Turku (since 2005), and Health Forum in Turku (since 2010). They have in common a curiosity to open dialogue. This blog combines their findings. Turku, Helsinki and Jyväskylä are cities in Finland.

No Agenda Club Turku on 3.6.2011

We met on a sunny summer morning, nature was busy opening up - Finnish summer is short, northern light is abundant and naked, there's something manic about the way summer rushes to use the short window of opportunity between long, dark winters.

I feel we did the same. No Agenda turned quite quickly into a deep and adventurous discussion of life and death. "Give me one word" always cuts to the point - here are our words this time: AWAKE - JOY - RESPONSIBILITY - WHO? - DISCONNECTED - LIGHT - ARRIVING - HAPPY ACCIDENT - DANGEROUS - LIBERATION - ENERGY.

There was - again - a lot of talk about trust; how trusting that life will carry you is essential for living and succeeding here and now. You can also count on that life will kill you - coming in terms with that is liberating, and after some reflection doesn't feel sad at all. Actually, it wakes your curiosity, doesn't it?

We discussed words dangerous - safe. What is safe, and what is dangerous? Should we teach our children to live dangerously, and so learn to trust their own resources and abilities to cope with any situation that arises? Or should we protect them from the harms of this world? Can we do that, and should we even try? Whom are we protecting, if we protect our children? Of course, some protecting regarding physical threats is necessary, but limiting their minds into "safe thoughts" might be harmful. Creativity needs dangerous thoughts.

One member made a remark that really stopped us. He usually controls things by talking much, but here he has focused on listening and that feels dangerous - he's not in control. I think this is the key learning we're practicing here: how to let go of control, and observing how that feels inside.

Thank you for this morning, thank you for this summer :-)
